EXACTLY HOW CAN A SMALL STAFF IMPACT OVER 26,000 CLIENTS IN NEED EACH YEAR? Well the answer is they can't. Most services at Humble Area Assistance Ministries are effectively performed by volunteers. Actually, over 2,000 volunteers contributed more than 56,000 in 2010! Working professional, retiree, stay-at-home mother, student? There is probably a place for you here at HAAM. There are a variety of jobs at HAAM. Some positions are team oriented while others are more independent. Many volunteer opportunities involve direct client services, others focus on administration. Some jobs require an on-going involvement, while different ones can be seasonal or occasional. THE FIRST STEP All potential volunteers need to contact our Volunteer Coordinator. She can answer your questions, explore your interest, and review the current HAAM volunteer needs. All volunteers (except students) must schedule to attend a 45 minute tour/information session that is held on Tuesday's at 11:00 a.m. or in some cases we can arrange a tour to meet the needs of your group. (information regarding students is below) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AND NEEDS A variety of volunteer opportunities are available in Client Services, Food Pantry, Self Sufficiency Program, Administrative Clerical, Resale Store and Special Events. HAAM operates daily on a small staff. We strongly depend on regular volunteers to maintain daily operations. For a detailed description of volunteer positions you can view or download a copy here. DETAILED VOLUNTEER POSITIONS SPECIAL EVENTS HAAM host four Special Events each year. Raise the Roof Annual Fundraiser, Back to School (school supply drive), Seasons of Sharing Thanksgiving and Seasons of Sharing Christmas. Volunteers are needed for a variety of task from planning, baking, registration, sorting/sacking, and distribution. Volunteers can sign up to be on an email notification list that will alert you when events are approach and current need for the event regarding volunteers or goods. OFF-SITE INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PROJECTS HAAM has a few projects that can be completed as an individual or as a group needing or wanting service hours. These projects can be organized at your location and then completed projects can be dropped off at HAAM. Just visit our off-site projects link. COLLEGE STUDENTS College students from field placement to interns, who are in need of hours for a class, are welcome to volunteer here at HAAM. Students from Lone Star, Baylor, Texas State and many more have taken part in volunteering and observing our client service and food pantry departments. Keep in mind HAAM Client Service hours are Monday thru Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. so volunteering for social service hours must be completed during this time. JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS Our Junior Volunteer program is for students K-12. Many children volunteer at HAAM throughout the year. They are able to bring a youthful enthusiasm to the HAAM community.
