Volunteer Opportunities

"You can make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give"   -Winston Churchill

EXACTLY HOW CAN A SMALL STAFF IMPACT OVER 26,000 CLIENTS IN NEED EACH YEAR?

Well, the answer is they can’t. Most services at Humble Area Assistance Ministries are effectively performed by volunteers. Actually, over 2,000 volunteers contributed more than 60,000 hours to our mission in 2008! Working professionals, retirees, stay-at-home mothers, students? There is probably a place for you here at HAAM.

There are a variety of jobs at HAAM. Some positions are team oriented while others are more independent. Many volunteer opportunities involve direct client services, others focus on administration. Some jobs require an on-going involvement, while different ones can be seasonal or occasional.

THE FIRST STEP

All potential volunteers need to contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Vicki Garcia at 281.446.3663 x 120 or vgarcia@haamministries.org. She can answer your questions, explore your interest, and review current HAAM opportunities. All volunteers must schedule to attend a 45 minute tour/orientation that is held on Tuesday’s at 11:00 a.m. or we can arrange a time that is convenient to your work or group schedule.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

SOCIAL SERVICE FOOD PANTRY SELF SUFFICIENCY PROGRAMS

This volunteer placement is a great fit for volunteers who are team-oriented, like to stay busy and want to serve community members in need of basic resources (food, clothing, etc.).

Social Service volunteers are committed to be here a minimum of one day per week from 9:40 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Positions range from greeter, receptionist are client in-take interviewers.

All of these positions have required training and a one on one interview with our Program Director.

The HAAM food pantry serves clients with a weeks supply of food for people experiencing hunger for food insecurity.

Food Pantry volunteers can work from 2-4 hours on a pre-scheduled volunteer day.

Volunteers fill orders and sort and stock food items.

Committed volunteers are needed to pick up local donations at area grocery stores and businesses. These volunteers may need a larger vehicle depending on the pick-up location.

This volunteer placement is wonderful for the more independent volunteer who is excited about helping those who are working towards meeting long term goals and creating lives outside the cycle of poverty.

Volunteer positions are available through our Education, Job Search and Mentoring programs.

Volunteers in this area generally volunteer during Social Service hours 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Some positions are available on Tuesday evenings and on Saturday mornings.
